Strolling towards the Velodrom in Friedrichshain during a workshop

Intermediate Analog Photography Course Tuesdays Starting Feb. 24!

We are proud to announce a weekly workshop covering intermediate topics in analog photography, running for 5 Tuesdays in a row beginning February 24th! The workshop will cover choices of film and developer, pushing and pulling film, choice of paper, fun printing techniques in the darkroom, a bit of zone system theory and a handful of other topics. Basically, everything you’ve always wanted to know about darkroom work. The workshop is intended for people who have a least shot a couple of rolls of black and white film and have been in the darkroom a few times. If you’ve done the 2 introductory workshops and are thirsty for more, this is the course for you.

The workshop will be held on five consecutive Tuesdays: February 24th, March 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th. All workshops will be held at StattLab @ StattBad Wedding starting at 17:30 each Tuesday. The course costs 150€ including all materials except for film. The course will be limited to 5 participants. If you are interested in learning more or want to sign up, send a mail.

Intro to Film Developing in the Darkroom August 7th

Time for the next workshop! On Thursday, August 7th at 13:00 there will be a “Intro to the Darkroom” workshop: bring a roll of exposed black and white film, and we will develop it together in the workshop. After developing, we will make contact prints of the negatives – sticking your toes into the world of analog printing, too.

All workshops are held at StattLab @ StattBad Wedding, Gerichtstr. 65. Cost is 25€ including materials. Sign up by sending an email .

Pinhole Photography Workshop this Friday, 13 December!

Learn the most hands-on, DIY, back-to-the-basics approach to photography there is: Pinhole Photography. This Friday, 13 December at 11:00 there will be a workshop on making a camera out of a shoebox. Or one of those plastic just-add-water soup packages. The picture above came out of a soup package. Really.

The workshop will last about six hours, beginning at 11:00. Participation fee is 20 euros including materials – paper, chemistry, construction supplies – but please, bring your own shoebox or soup thing. I can only buy so many shoes. After going over the basics of why this works at all (essentially, a brief history of the camera), you will be guided through building a camera yourself, from the box and basic supplies. At that point we will go into the darkroom, load our cameras, and then go out on the street and shoot. We’ll develop the pictures right away, and we should have enough time (read: daylight) to do this a couple of times. In the end, participants can take home not only their own cameras but also the photos made in them and hand-developed in the darkroom. It’ll be fun!

Workshop Announcement: Printing from Negatives and Pinhole Photography

Two workshops have just been announced: Printing from a negative on 15 November and Pinhole Photography on 13 December. All details are available here.

Printing from a Negative: Make The Magic on 15 November 2013 is a workshop to learn how to enlarge photos in the darkroom. This is what you know from the movies, with a red light and a piece of paper in different trays. Learn to do it yourself!

Pinhole Camera Photography on 13 December 2013 is a workshop to learn how to make and use a camera out of box. This is as hands-on as photography gets, essentially building a camera from household materials, then going out and using it.

All workshops are held in Berlin-Friedrichshain on Fridays at 13:00, lasting 6 hours.

Ready to Sign Up? Just send me an email. More information is available here.

Workshops During Social Media Week Berlin 2013

Check out Analog Photography Berlin during Social Media Week 2013, 23-27 September!

There will be several events during the week, where you learn a bit about black and white analog photography and social media at the same time. The question is, of course, how to use a photograph shot on film for social media. Well, I’m doing it here, for a start.

Social Media Week events are free and open to the public. They are a great way to learn, network, and grow.

On Monday, 23 September 2013 at Design Akademie Berlin is The Real Hipstamatic: Post Analogue Photos in 5 minutes. Here we will use a new fancy Nokia 1020 Smartphone to scan negatives, ready to post them on your favorite sites, be it Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, or something else. Come on by, bring your negatives, and we can simply and quickly digitize them!

On Tuesday, 24 September 2013 there is a full crash course on on analog photography and getting it on line, called The Real Hipstamatic: Analogue Photography Workshop. Space is limited here, please contact me.

Pinhole Photography Workshop on 30 August

Join in for a workshop on Pinhole Photography on 30 August at 6pm. In this workshop we will turn a box into a camera. We will go over why a pinhole camera works at all, then we will build pinhole cameras. After that, we’ll load our pinhole cameras in the darkroom and go out and shoot. Of course, we’ll go back into the dakrooom and develop these pinhole photographs. This is an excellent way to get into the darkroom, to start with black and white analog photography, or to experiment a bit more. Check out more on this course and others or sign up by sending an email here.
